Our AGM will be held at this meeting, it is very important that we have at least 60 members attending so we have the official number required for the business to take place. The AGM is usually only takes a few minutes. There will be a super raffle so come prepared with cash to buy your tickets and bags to take your prizes home in! Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be served.
The speaker after the AGM is Jennifer Cowling with her talk entitled ‘Those Extraordinary Things we Say’. Jennifer says, "Are you the type of person (as I am) who happily uses phrases such as 'a turn up for the book', 'cupboard love', 'being taken to the cleaners', and many others, in your conversation oblivious to the fact that your listeners may not know what you're talking about? Why is our language so strange and difficult to analyse at times? What are its origins? My talk is a light-hearted look at figures of speech and how we use them."
More information about Jennifer follows below.
Jennifer has had a diverse working life including from Speech Therapist to Sandwich Shop Owner and Funeral Director to a senior management role at The Stroke Association.
The variety and scope of her working life have brought her a happy, fun and rewarding career which didn't stop when she retired from full-time working in 2014.
That year she moved from Harrogate, her hometown of 40 years, to Oxfordshire and continued to work part time - currently as a freelance speaker and running Extend your Fitness classes for older people. These keep her fit too!!
Jennifer has a still-mad 11-year-old springer spaniel who gets her out walking, is an avid reader and loves travelling. She also continues to pursue her lifelong involvement in amateur theatre as well as going to the theatre as much as she can.
